CCDCはダンスの教育や発展にも力を入れ、毎年約40回にのぼるアウトリーチ公演や、毎年4万人の学生、観客を対象とした人気の舞踊コースを行っている。CCDCはまた、中国本土でのダンスフェスティバル開催にも携わる。1998年に設立された中国舞踊発展プログラムを通して香港と中国本土の若手アーティストを対象としたマネジメント、技術面でのサポートを提供。2004年にオープンしたCCDCダンスセンターは、若手アーティスト、学生、地域コミュニティーのための舞踊施設やプログラムを設置し、香港において重要な芸術活動である舞踊の継続的な発展に貢献している。

For 37 years under the leadership of Founder and Artistic Director Willy Tsao, City Contemporary Dance Company has inspired and excited audiences — not only in Hong Kong but also around the world — with superb contemporary dance performances. Founded in 1979, CCDC has presented more than 200 original works to critical acclaim, including productions by Tsao and other leading choreographers, such as Helen Lai, Mui Cheuk-yin, Pun Siu-fai and Yuri Ng. CCDC has also organized innovative collaborations with outstanding artists from other media and with artists from around the world.
CCDC is renowned for reflecting the vigor and creativity of Hong Kong’s vibrant, multifaceted contemporary culture, sharing dance works to an audience of more than 50,000 people annually. Since 1980, it has represented Hong Kong, receiving 244 overseas invitations to perform on some of the world’s foremost dance stages and festivals in more than 30 major cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, Montreal, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Oslo, Copenhagen, London, Paris, Lyon, Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Prague, Rome, Florence, Rovereto, Karmiel (Israel), St Petersburg, Moscow, Mumbai, Delhi, Urumqi, Beijing, Shanghai, Xining, Manila, Tokyo, Niigata, Seoul, Busan, Singapore and Taipei.
CCDC’s commitment to education and development results in around 40 outreach performances annually, offering highly popular dance courses to more than 40,000 students and audience members each year. CCDC also helps to organize dance festivals in mainland China. Through the China Dance Development Programme, founded in 1998, CCDC provides administrative and technical support to emerging Hong Kong and mainland Chinese artists. CCDC Dance Centre, opened in 2004, provides young artists, students and the community with dance facilities and programs, ensuring the ongoing development of dance as a vital artistic pursuit in Hong Kong.

1979年に城市当代舞踊団（CCDC）を創設し、1989年から芸術監督を務める。2005年には、中国初となるプロのインディペンデントモダンダンスカンパニー北京雷動天下現代舞団を立ち上げる。2015年には中国舞踊家協会の理事に任命され、続く2016年には広東省舞踊家協会の副会長に就任。中国のモダンダンスの発展に尽くしてきたツァオは、1995年から中国の主要都市の大学、舞踊グループを対象にレクチャーやワークショップを頻繁に行う。
最も多作な中国人振付家の一人であるツァオは、哲学、歴史、オペラ、そしてチャイニーズロックに至るまで、幅広い中国文化からインスピレーションを得て制作を行っている。作品は30年来、多数の国際アートフェスティバルで発表され、数々の受賞歴を持つ。ツォアのこれまでの多大な功績、貢献は現代舞踊の発展に大きく寄与するものとして広く認められている。
Willy Tsao established CCDC in 1979 and has been its Artistic Director since 1989. In 2005, Tsao established China’s first independent professional modern dance company BeijingDance/LDTX. In 2015, he was appointed as a council member of China’s Chinese Dancers Association, and became the vice chairman of Guangdong Provincial Dancers Association in 2016. Devoted to the development of modern dance in China, Tsao gives lectures and workshops frequently for universities and dance groups in major Chinese cities since 1995.
As one of the most prolific Chinese choreographers, Tsao takes inspiration from the full breadth of Chinese culture including philosophy, history, opera and even Chinese rock music. His works have been presented at many international arts festivals over the past 30 years and won numerous awards. Tsao’s immense and invaluable achievement and contributions to the development of contemporary dance are widely recognized.
